A few days of great weather after the long, cold, dreary winter and everyone’s jumping back on their bikes. Annie and I met at the Agate Pass Bridge for a “park and ride” loop around Port Gamble. Went up the back side via the Kingston-Port Gamble road, which was fun despite the narrow twists and [...]

Prez Day in Sequim: too effing cold
Posted in Rides on February 17, 2009 | 1 Comment »
Okay okay, we were pushing the season, thinking we could take a pretty good forecast, drive to Sequim, and bicycle in the sunshine. But that’s how desperate it gets here in February.
Will and I did a 32+ mile loop, starting at Railroad Bridge Park — we headed west on the Olympic Discovery Trail, and when [...]
Prayers for the new year

A family bike ride shortly after New Year’s led all four of us to Hall’s Hill Park and a visit to the prayer wheel. It was a chilly, invigorating ride — me on LRB, Josie on her Giant, Stef on Will’s Giant, and Will on his Cannondale mountain bike. We pushed up the hill, took [...]

Passing 5,000 miles on my odometer seemed like such a big deal, I nearly forgot about reaching 6,000 when I was out on a routine ride last week. I think I was somewhere on Fort Ward Hill – but, by the time I remembered to look, I was six miles past the mark.
Mileage update

Just for the record… Since my 5,000 mile mark in June, I’ve put 857 miles on my odometer. Although my weekly mileage pace has dropped off this summer, it looks like I’ll be turning over 6,000 this fall sometime. Whee!

Kim and I were out on a ride yesterday – we climbed Springridge Road to enter Gazzam Lake park on the north side, and as we approached the entrance, noticed a hand-printed sign on the post. “Warning, a black bear was seen on this trail last night at 5 pm. Be carefull!” (sic)
Hard core riding

A month ago I finally crossed a threshold I’ve been eyeing – and avoiding – for a long time: I started strengthening my “core,” which is a hip new way of saying that I started doing abdominal exercises again.
Toe Jam South: Conquered!

I bicycled up the south side of Toe Jam Hill today, after 15 months of wondering if I could ever do it. I did it in my very smallest new gear, and even then, I can honestly say that I thought I might die. Seriously, I was getting prickling pain in my hands and wrists [...]

Waves of relief, joy and gratitude today as I rode 26 miles on my “new” little red bicycle with her three new, shiny chain rings.
Sunday total

First Sunday since May 18 I’ve managed to break 100 miles for my weekly total (thanks to our Sequim trip) – and just barely, at 100.79. (I didn’t even get a chocolate bar, either, as I’m on a cleansing diet!) I’m thinking about getting a mileage spreadsheet of some kind – just to be even [...]
