Finally, a dream come true:  going on a bicycle tour!  The “Farm Fresh” trip left from San Francisco on
September 19 with 45 or so bicyclists from all over the U.S. and Canada, headed over the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County, and arrived at the first night’s camp at Petaluma. In the following days, we [...]

Well, I finally did it – plunked down my money and committed to doing an Adventure Cycling tour.  There are so many to choose from, and so many that call to me, it has been agonizing to make a decision.  But my growing (so to speak) passion for food and farming got me over the [...]

Another delicious three-course breakfast served by Simone, and it was off to do the Sequim-to-Port-Angeles piece of the Olympic Discovery Trail.  We loaded the bikes on the car and drove to Railroad Park, then rode 15 miles to the shores of PA, where rain off the Olympics moved in and forced us to make a decision:  [...]

Sequim – Day 2

Took it easy today - 11 miles roundtrip to Dungeness Spit.  Pedaled furiously into a tearing westerly all the way there, and flew back on it to Groveland.  The spit was so windy and chilly, I took refuge behind a huge log on the leeward side and snoozed while Josie went photographing.   Tomorrow, we’ll do the [...]

Northwest touring book

Rummaging through the bicycling section at the public library this weekend (which is woefully small, I must say) I found a 1995 issue of “Biking the Great Northwest” which offers 20 tours in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.  Each trip is detailed in the book along with maps, mileage logs and an elevation chart.

Sequim: Cycling heaven

Bainbridge schools were on spring break this week, and without much in the way of funds (see “Crash“) my choices of getaways were limited.  Unlike other Bainbridge Islanders, I wouldn’t be going to Mexico, the Bahamas, or bouncing to Paris for a quick shopping trip.  On the bright side, however, I have a reliable vehicle [...]
